Silence on the US Front–News Flash of US Research from the UK!

The Missing News Flash

Wouldn’t you know it?! If you had wanted to learn about research done anywhere in the world, including in the US, about the potential harms associated with the low carbohydrate diet, the consumption of saturated fats, the cholesterol that will kill you if you eat eggs, or that you will up and die on the spot from increased dietary salt, look no further: news flash will hit you in the face everywhere you look.

However, if you want to read about research done anywhere in the world, including in the US, about the potential benefits associated with the low carbohydrate diet, the consumption of saturated fat, eating those amazing eggs, or the potential of increased longevity and heart health from increased dietary sodium, look everywhere but in the US for news flash.

Surprise!

I was surprised that I learned from some UK members of my migraine group that on June 20, 2019, Ohio State University released a news flash about their own clinical trial research on the benefits of low carbs diets in terms of improving type 2 diabetes (T2D), even if the weight of the individual remained the same. There is importance associated with not losing weight. In the past, all research with the low carbs diets was criticized because weight loss is generally associated with the reduction or reversal of T2D. So making sure that weight loss didn’t happen but T2D was improved or reversed, was a very important point.

Have you heard about in the US? Me neither…

But I heard about it from the UK, where a news flash was published by The Daily Mail. Indeed, doing away with pasta, bread, potatoes, and sugar–meaning all heavy duty carbohydrates with the least amount of nutrition but the most glucose energy in them–can reverse T2D. In case you woudl like to read the original research article, which is open access, you can read it in the Journal of Clinical Medicine here.

Older Missing News

At the same time as I discovered the above missing vital news in US research on nutrition, I was sent another link to another UK event, which originally was published over a  month ago! It was on discussion about the importance to start focusing on insulin as the key player of obesity. This article mentions a discussion on BBC Radio 4!

Have you heard of it in the US? Me neither…

I suppose it is totally futile to guess what else we are not told about research and changes in attitude toward nutrition elsewhere. The US industries (processed food manufacturers, farmer who receive government subsidies for growing grains and soy even if we don’t need them, pharmaceuticals, medical facilities, and associated medical industries) don’t want us to stop eating bread, pasta, potatoes, and sugar! We may get healthy!! What will they do and whom will they sell to if US people turn to wholesome food choices instead of all that processed food?

You tell me….

About Angela A Stanton, Ph.D.

Angela A Stanton, PhD, is a Neuroeconomist focusing on chronic pain--migraine in particular--physiology, electrolyte homeostasis, nutrition, and genetics. She lives in Southern California. Her current research is focused on migraine cause, prevention, and treatment without the use of medicine. As a forever migraineur from childhood, her discovery was helped by experimenting on herself. She found the cause of migraine to be at the ionic level, associated with disruption of the electrolyte homeostasis, resulting from genetic variations of all voltage dependent channels, gates, and pumps (chanelopathy) that modulate electrolyte mineral density and voltage in the brain. In addition, insulin and glucose transporters, and several other variants, such as MTHFR variants of B vitamin methylation process and many others are different in the case of a migraineur from the general population. Migraineurs are glucose sensitive (carbohydrate intolerant) and should avoid eating carbs as much as possible. She is working on her hypothesis that migraine is a metabolic disease. As a result of the success of the first edition of her book and her helping over 5000 migraineurs successfully prevent their migraines world wide, all ages and both genders, and all types of migraines, she published the 2nd (extended) edition of her migraine book "Fighting The Migraine Epidemic: Complete Guide: How To Treat & Prevent Migraines Without Medications". The 2nd edition is the “holy grail” of migraine cause, development, and prevention, incorporating all there is to know. It includes a long section for medical and research professionals. The book is full of academic citations (over 800) to authenticate the statements she makes to make it easy to follow up by those interested and to spark further research interest. It is a "Complete Guide", published on September 29, 2017. Dr. Stanton received her BSc at UCLA in Mathematics, MBA at UCR, MS in Management Science and Engineering at Stanford University, PhD in Economics with dissertation in neuroscience (culminating in Neuroeconomics) at Claremont Graduate University, fMRI certification at Harvard University Medical School at the Martinos Center for Neuroimaging for experimenting with neurotransmitters on human volunteers, certification in LCHF/ketogenic diet from NN (Nutrition Network), certification in physiology (UPEN via Coursea), Nutrition (Harvard Shool of Public Health) and functional medicine studies. Dr. Stanton is an avid sports fan, currently power weight lifting and kickboxing. For relaxation (yeah.. about a half minute each day), she paints and photographs and loves to spend time with her family of husband of 45 years, 2 sons and their wives, and 2 granddaughters. While there is money to be made selling pharmaceuticals to lower cholesterol the main stream medical advice will not change. The saturated fat will kill you are tied to the pharmaceuticals promotion.
